The Law Office of Paul A. Hampel Feedback Page
This feedback page is designed to allow inmates and their families and opportunity to share their thoughts about my office, prison topics, or any related concerns. I will separate feedback into two forms. The first will cover a current issue of interest to my office based on my travels and interaction with clients in TDCJ. The second form is designed to allow anyone to share thoughts or mention topics that concern them. Writers are encouraged to provide phone numbers if they want to discuss matters in further detail.
Form #1 - Securus FeedbackThe Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) began providing Securus tablets to eligible inmates for free in 2021 as part of the Unity JP6S Loaner Tablet program. The tablets are managed through a secure internal network and cannot access the internet. They can provide a variety of information, including:Educational materials, Vocational materials, Religious materials, Legal materials, Forms, Books, Music, Other approved materials, 350 podcasts, and 30 games. Inmates can also add monitored messaging and phone services, as well as select entertainment through subscription plans. The tablets can also be used to notify prisoners of administrative and medical appointments, accept grievances, and take commissary orders. All of these actions appear very positive.
But Securus operates in total secrecy with their paid services. They expressly indicate there are no refunds (on their opening website page) and accounts are shut down in the event of any charge back to a credit card. These are customer rights given to card holders by banks, but Securus/ Aventiv bullies these rights and all customer concerns through their policies. They further this secrecy by offering no contact with any management that can address these policies or reimburse accounts in the event any mistake ever occurs. The Securus contracts are quasi-governmental mail service contracts but they give the public no means of transparency, effective communication, or resolution when any problem occurs. I am interested in feedback from offender’s and families regarding Securus’ services.

Form #2 - General Feedback
My office has been shaped over the years based on my in person visits with clients at every unit in the system and through the phone calls I have had with families during the last 30 years. Results and services determine the success of a law office business, but interaction and feedback are a large part of the law practice experience. I truly appreciate all the people that have shared so much with me over the years. I hope this on line invitation will foster those experiences going forward.
